Alabama Medical Board Procedures

Are you a medical professional under investigation against your license?

If you have received a “Notice of Investigation” from the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners (ASBME) or have a hearing scheduled to go before the Alabama State Board of Medical Examiners or the Alabama Medical License Commission (MLC) then you should seek out a legal professional. This means that you are being investigated for a complaint against you concerning a conduct of investigations and/or misconduct.

What to Expect in an investigation?

In a conduct of investigations, you should know that all written complaints are reviewed, and when necessary investigated. The majority of the complaints seen before the board are from patients, except for rare and unusual circumstances. Each complaint has to be in a written form for review. Complaints are assigned to a board approved law enforcement investigator.

If the board decides that the complaint is serious enough to persue further inquiry after speaking with you, then the allegations have been deemed serious enough to investigate you with a formal board hearing. This means that the allegation is beyond the scope of misunderstanding, possibly involving the personal safety of the complainant. If the physician is perceived as having a level of medical practice below a desired level, then the board will issue a formal confidential Letter of Concern. Depending on the severity of the incident or the perceived pattern of a problem, will affect the boards decision.

What to do?

Do not assume that the Board has your best interest in mind during a medical board investigation. In any of these circumstances, the Board is an ostentatious organization, and as such will always look out for their best interest.
